Would you like to visit and experience one of the most beautiful places in the world? Then take a day or at least half a day to explore and take in Point Lobos in Big Sur California.
There is something just so magical about Point Lobos. It inspired the classic novel Treasure Island and world famous photographer Ansel Adams frequented Point Lobos throughout his career.

I would recommend heading to Bird Island Trail first upon your visit to Point Lobos. This is where China Cove is as well as China Beach, Bluff Trails, and Bird Island. Sea Otters can be spotted here as well.
It’s a nice easy 2 minute hike from the Parking Lot to views of China Cove but the full round about which I highly recommend is 30-40 minutes with stops.

I have lots of good memories of hiking at point lobos when I was growing up. Many times I would go with my Dad and we would park along Highway 1 and walk in the gate. Once inside would take the first right to and go down to Whaler’s Cove.
There we would check out the whaler’s cabin and and then start heading up the trail. We would make our way around Point Lobos’ perimiter, enjoying all the beautiful views of sea cliffs and forest. Eventually we would find ourselves at China Cove.
